I agree with you. But on the other hand Google Drive has been doing this already since forever so I'm not really sure what's changed through this.

The location of the scanning moved from their hardware to consumer hardware.

If your consumer hardware auto-updates, it's "their" hardware where "their" is the set of all software vendors with keys allowing them to auto-update anything on your computer.
