I love cargo. That alone almost makes it worth it to me after years of wrestling cmake and dependency compilation.

Note that the kernel won't use cargo to build most (or all) of the rust code.

Though dealing with rust dependencies by hand is usually nicer than dealing with C dependencies by hand because the build process is more standardized.
