The whole industry (outside the cryptocurrency sector) has moved in a sadly authoritarian direction over the past decade or so. You would not believe some of the infantilizing and paternalistic rhetoric I've heard behind closed doors at major tech companies from people who believe they have a "responsibility" to protect the public from itself and promote correct thinking.
