DMCA compliance is easy. You just have to respond to takedown notices expeditiously. Active moderation for copyright infringement is not required. You don't have to care about infringing content you don't know about if no notice is sent. You can force notices to be mailed to a PO box if that is the desired path for contacting your complaint agent.

The platforms do just that, by removing the content in question.

Nobody complains they do that. The complaint is that that isn't all they do. Sometimes they take down material that they consider infringing without having received a notice, and they often get this wrong.

Many of the platforms have proactive DMCA applications that actively scan their own content. They have a non-zero false positive rate, although I have no idea what the probability is.

YouTube has its own non-DMCA process to streamline complaints and satisfy the rights holders who they want to maintain a business relationship with. If you don't have such concerns then basic safe harbor compliance is all you need.

There are plenty of contentious moderation decisions that are unrelated to the DMCA.
Which is why my post had two parts.

For your second part: by not listening to the mob but not banning them either.
Unfortunately, that is not a mantra that will keep your platform DMCA compliant.
Also, how exactly does it apply to an internet mob calling for someone's head? Do we apply this mantra to protect the mob's behaviour, or to protect the person the mob is targeting?
