What Amazon (among other corporate titans) can do to others, they can do to us eventually, and it won't be the first time even well-off white working men have been screwed over by those who own for a living rather than work for a living.

This shit won't stop until we stand up to them.

It's possible and healthy to empathize with people not in your own demographic.

Some people also have principles that are not based purely in self-interest.

"But I don't want to pay taxes because they don't benefit me directly. And why would I pay for schools with my property taxes, I don't have kids". I've been surprised at how much prevalent this line of thinking is in the US as opposed to my home country.

I feel like this is a weird statement. Unless I'm personally involved in the abuses of Amazon, I can't feel bad for the victims?

I've never been murdered but I feel bad for murder victims as well.

Even from a perspective where morality and empathy don't apply, why side with a monopoly whose quality has hit a noticeable ceiling?

The unionization efforts seem like events that could disrupt Amazon outside of anti-monopoly legislation. To me, that seems like a good thing for most tech workers working outside of FAANG (as long as they don't hold Amazon stock).

Not clear what stereotype you're invoking here.

I think yall misunderstood my comment. I'm not maligning anyone or complaining about any stereotypes, it's a reality that men are more pro-business policies than women in the West. Personally I think that Amazon is getting what's coming to them for their labor practices. My point was that I expected a significantly more conservative, Wall Street Journal-y response than those I have been seeing so far.

Looks like I chose the wrong person to reply to. Does it ever feel sour that people that think like you are an ever decreasing minority in the greatest country on earth? Reflect on that.

< greatest country on earth

Ha, good one. Which one of the two major dystopian police states are you referring to?

"feel sour" - is that a chinese phrase? sounds familiar.

You can interpret my comment negatively if you choose. My comment is no worse than yours: "it's a reality".

The US is not a police state. Are you some CCP anti-Westerner or something?

We've banned this account for repeatedly posting flamewar comments and egregiously breaking the site guidelines. Not cool.

Right, forgot -- men eat shit whenever they're asked and never fight for their or others' rights.
Re:Amazon illegally fired activist workers, Labor Board finds by htnsao on Monday April 05, 2021 @06:12PM (#26705325)
No, more like, instead of whining, men just quit jobs that suck aka "take this job and shove it".

And/or fire problem workers..

Re:Amazon illegally fired activist workers, Labor Board finds by uoaei on Monday April 05, 2021 @06:43PM (#26705596)
You have a warped view of masculinity. Some may call it toxic, even.
Re:Amazon illegally fired activist workers, Labor Board finds by htnsao on Monday April 05, 2021 @06:58PM (#26705733)
<"some may call it toxic, even".

Whiners gotta whine. Toxic 'cancel culture' more like, which is a bigger problem these days.

Quiting a shitty job is pretty satisfying and it provides direct feedback that things need to be improved in order to retain talent. Or not, as it could just be good riddance.

Re:Amazon illegally fired activist workers, Labor Board finds by uoaei on Monday April 05, 2021 @07:52PM (#26706208)
Whining about a cancel culture that basically doesn't actually exist is pretty ironic. What a typical response from such a creative, self-actualized "male".

There are a host of other reasons that literally everything you just said doesn't and can't apply to the vast majority of people, but there's not enough room here to attempt to start without leaving out something important.

"my definition" is literally the creation of a safe space so your views can remain unchallenged.

Really fun to watch you types contradict yourselves at every turn.

Valid critique is not "cancel culture", if you can't stand behind your own opinions then maybe you should try to understand why you relinquish in the face of any criticism whatsoever and retreat to hide to your safe space.

Re:Amazon illegally fired activist workers, Labor Board finds by htnsao on Tuesday April 06, 2021 @10:37AM (#26712300)
Seems we have some different definitions as I try to ignore most of it.

To me cancel culture seems like the trend of a mob of whiners to start to whine about something until its cancelled, like the latest Dr Seuss book outrage. Now it seems Amazon is the target. Or men. It's kinda like witchburning in the middle ages, and equally ridiculous. And toxic.

The frequent downvoting on HN to censure opposed opinions also seems like cancel culture. HN often seems like an enforced echo chamber "safe place" for bleeding-heart sentiment.

My definition of safe space is a place where people are not allowed to express a different opinion or ridicule someone so maybe we are in agreement on that. People are whining for the need for safe places (like unions) and so I say ciao, go ahead and whine loser.

Edit: and in case you want to say I'm contradicting myself about safe place and unions, I mean you people are trying to create a "safe place" within some else's business where their views cannot be challenged eg right to fire. (instead of being independent and going their own way).

But I don't want to argue the details as I'm trying to ignore most of it.
