256 GB is more than enough for many people. Consider work laptops that are mostly used in meetings, or personal laptops for folks who live in the cloud.

I've recently used a 100 GB partition on my personal laptop for client work and it was fine.

(I'm not trying to defend the price of Apple's SSD upgrades.)
