It did.

In book "Everything is Now" by Bill Spence writes that research in string theory led to developing new mathematics which led to helping to manage data in hadron collider which led to detecting Higgs boson. It is not direct cause and effect correlation but it helped with due process.

You can’t base the correctness of a theory on what the techniques it developed lead to.

For example, astrology probably developed techniques of recording astronomical events and likely some mathematical techniques, but that does not mean that astrology is a correct theory.
