Re:Is Bitcoin a religion? What about Tesla? by maxharris on Monday November 09, 2020 @01:41PM (#25038065)
How do I know this is not simply more FUD designed to protect the interests that are staring into an abyss as Tesla continues to disrupt their business? Here I am thinking about "value" investors that maintain their wealth by extracting rents from the poor, with REITs, those that own "safe" stocks like legacy auto. Their suppliers as well, the labor union leadership, dealer networks, etc., all stand to lose a great deal of wealth and economic power in the coming decade.

Meanwhile, those giant methane sinks in the arctic are bursting. The big picture is that I simply don't think we can afford to keep listening to FUD like this. Keep your shares.

The piece doesn't advocate for anyone to sell shares. It's actually positive about both Tesla and BTC.

It doesn't have to do that to accomplish the objective I'm trying to point out. All it seeks to actually do is associate its targets with religion. I believe this is part of a long smear. I can't prove that, of course, but I think this possibility is obvious to anyone that can read between the lines.

Hopefully a more nuanced view would come out of reading the piece.

There's a tendency to refer to Peloton as a "religion" or Lululemon as a "cult."

They're not. But we may overlook the new, spiritual organizations that are being born.

Bitcoin and Tesla bear the markings of genuine religious denominations.
