Outsourcing IT Needs vs Inhouse Team

As a non technical founder of a company that runs online, would you fancy outsourcing your IT needs to a trusted brand or take on the stress of recruiting ,having and managing the team(department_)in house

If you are non-technical, you ideally need a senior technical partner/cofounder/employee in house first who can then either build a team in house (ideal for long term) or outsource non core components.

The worst combination is a non-technical founder outsourcing to another firm. Even if you are lucky that the firm is good, they will always treat you as another client and you will always be at their mercy. I don't recommend going that route unless that is the only thing you can do for the moment.

^ This is the tech version of lawyering up. You don’t want to get swindled out there.

Who is this trusted brand you're talking about? I think companies need to decide what their core business is and if it's something where their business is embedded in the technology in some way they have to realize they're an IT company even if they don't think they are. It's difficult for a company using a product or outsourcing their core processes to differentiate themselves in the market.

As a team owner, there is an opposite concern: we did several projects for a client with the promise that at some point there will be a startup where we'll be included as founders. More than two years passed and, although paid regularly, there is no indication that something will change in the direction we started. So I am planning to end it.

Now, it may be an idea to have a chat to see if there is any common ground between our worlds. Find me at iordachej at gmail

Can you define IT? Do you mean the infrastructure the company uses to conduct business, like laptops, email, etc.? Or do you mean everything inclusive of the core technical parts of the company?

If it is a technology oriented company where tech is a core part of it, in-source. Outsourcing (using SaaS as an example) is good for things that aren't a core competency.
