Stability is a thing though; a younger version of me would've gladly opted for 2k/month if there was the likelihood of that continuing for 20+ years. Open source projects tend to run for very long times and the solid ones keep growing (in every way) so it's not a naive assumption.
No, I'm thinking if you pay peanuts you'll get monkeys. It is rare for a situation to stay the same after money gets involved. People make decisions based on money.
