Why would I trust my memory on how a utility works with an empty set when I can just look it up?

So many languages, frameworks, and libraries copy the same functionality and every single one does it differently.

The cost of looking it up is a little bit of humility. The cost of not doing so is a small chance of spectacularly breaking something for my entire team. Suck it up, apply the Precautionary Principle, and most importantly, get over yourself.
