It's not that tricky, either manually or automatically limit it so battery doesn't deplete to less than 20%?

Sure, but what if you need to get out of town quickly or go to work or the hospital the next morning? 20% isn’t going to cut it. There is no safe discharge point when there’s a good chance your car will turn into a brick because the power is out.
