Apples and oranges. For any two different real numbers, there's a number between them. Integers work differently.

This is a bold assertion, and one that is not obviously true, especially in cases like 0.999... and 1.0
Re:0.999...= 1 by empath75 on Tuesday April 28, 2020 @05:41PM (#23012458)
Those aren’t different real numbers. That’s the whole point of the conversation.
Re:0.999...= 1 by Pudini on Tuesday April 28, 2020 @05:41PM (#23012454)
Obviously saying it is not obviously true is false if 0.999... == 1.0

Can something be true and not obvious?
Re:0.999...= 1 by Pudini on Thursday April 30, 2020 @05:22AM (#23028990)
Obviously not.

Which is the point in using the word obvious, obviously. Namely, using it to feel superior or to not provide a better argument.

Re:0.999...= 1 by perl4ever on Friday May 01, 2020 @11:08PM (#23048807)
When I use the word, the point is to call out the fact that I think it's obvious, so if others don't, they can explain why. Not to forestall any discussion.

Anyone who uses the word differently is doing it wrong.
