As are nearly all taxes. My locality recently enacted a "hotel tax". Do you think that money comes from the coffers of the business, or does the price of hotel rooms rise to pay the tax?

Of course it's the latter. Same with the gasoline tax, tariffs, value added tax, cigarette and alcohol tax, the list goes on.
