Ignorance is the lack of knowledge, it doesn't "spread" like a disease. Misconceptions can, but without the original author's mistakes we wouldn't have this rebuttal by a very knowledgeable actor, so overall this is a net positive including for you and me.

Your "correction" literally explained the comment it was correcting as being true.
