One of the main causes of the fall of the Roman Empire was that, lacking zero, they had no way to indicate successful termination of their C programs.

C? All I had was a single book on MS-DOS, so I wrote batch files on paper, then executed them by hand.

(Not even joking, by the way - literally how I got into computers and programming.)
