Maybe if the coworker meets an actual gay, s/he'll hate gays less? People sometimes hate/dislike out of ignorance/unfamiliarity.

Or maybe not. The possibility is in any case not germane. If you're gay, it's stupid to count on your shining personality reforming a homophobe.

That may or may not be true, but it's definitely not the responsibility of any individual LGBT+ individual to try change someone's mind. Especially when said person will likely have a pretty bad time while interacting with someone who hates who they are.
