Just a question to check on something that I'm pretty sure I already know from your story:

Just want to verify my assumption that you were too small to have a "Research" or "Tech Strategy" department to move that guy into?

Some people like making production product or like having the higher development standards of production systems.

I was the business owner and we had 9 employees. Even with him moving into another department, it would be like printing new business cards and that's it.
