I have always thought of edge computing as a CDN that serves more than just static assets. The power of the "edge" becomes apparent when you realize commodity hardware that's using RISC/RISC-V can now do on-device machine learning or host basic REST services. It's also key for lowering latencies and increasing availability in a globally distributed service.
