Drinks like White Claw might have some added sugar, but they must not have much compared to beer. Probably fewer calories than an equivalent ABV beer.
From a brewery ( https://www.allagash.com/blog/calories-in-beer/?ao_confirm ):
> A 5% ABV BEER WILL HAVE AROUND 100 CALORIES FROM ALCOHOL ALONE.
From White Claw's FAQ ( https://www.whiteclaw.com/faq/faq-4/ ):
> Our White Claw® Hard Seltzer 12oz fruit flavors have 100 Calories, 2 grams of Carbohydrates/Sugars per serving size (355 ml can), and 5% ABV.
So basically they are close to the minimum number of calories necessary to include that much alcohol.
Most 'light' macro beers (Miller Light, Coors Light, etc) have 4%-4.5% ABV and 95-105 calories. So the difference is pretty negligible.
Endlessly frustrates me how much of the food economy is focused on producing cheap carbohydrates. This is perverse regulatory pressure.
Yeah, filling bellies to keep people alive really pisses me off too...

Cheap carbohydrates keep us fed and happy. What if I told you that not everyone needs to look like a fitness model to live a reasonably content existence?

Do they keep us happy? Or would depression rates be better if we had fewer cheap carbs and more quality calories?
Proteins and fats can keep us fed and happy as well. Also being healthier can keep lead to being happier.

70%+ of Americans are overweight, 30%+ are obese. We’re not at any risk of having too many people look like fitness models.
Regulating prices is bad for free markets. More news at 10

So you think that the government should be able to set prices? I don't know why you don't like how business regulates prices.

If we were talking about California compliant semi-auto rifles everyone here would be all happy that the law makes them suck. I'm sure some "religion enthusiast" in North Carolina is happy that the law makes malt beverages suck.

By that logic CEO pay does the same thing, along with every other cost.
Nice! Our tax laws encourage companies to make less palatable goods that then require more added sugar to compensate thus upping everyone's carbohydrate intake without it actually tasting as good as those carbs would be in a cake or some such. How wonderful! /s
