A lot of interviews about the motivation being some variant of teamwork or changing the world.

Not many people admitting the financial motivation.

A lot of companies these days have parallel tracks for ICs and managers, so I'm not sure that the financial motivation holds at such places.

agreed. Being an IC with less stress and getting similar compensation while enjoying the architectural work seems more lucrative
