"I don't care about your religious holidays or children" in this case likely should be interpreted to mean "your exact reason for not doing your job doesn't matter".

It may mean that to the employer. To the employee, it means "I'm a psychopath with zero human empathy."

And to the jury, it probably means "You lose; pay the man."
