We use https://square.github.io/keywhiz/. It provide secrets as files in a directory, securely. So no special API, client libraries required to access it.

You can use Consul-Template (https://github.com/hashicorp/consul-template) -- yes, it really needs a rename -- to do this with Vault (or Consul).
