1) If you're willing to do some custom setup, it's quite easy to spin up Kubernetes on bare metal or an OVH VPS using kubespray or kubeadm.
3)IMHO even for small setups because you buy into a <pseudo standard> ecosystem.
Backups can be handled for example by stash[0] instead of having to (partially) write your own backup solution.
4)I haven't tried this on OVH, but as it's a openstack based environment certain items are well integrated e.g. persistent volume handling [1]
