You're assuming the United States exists in 30 years, and that it still elects its leader by popular vote :)

We do currently, albeit indirectly. I could see a future where we no longer hold elections and have the electoral college pick the president without any pretense of voting.

It would really be a change if we elected the president by popular vote because we don't now and haven't ever.
