Actually, Atoms are unstable on very large time scales. So, a block of gold will eventually stop being a block of gold.

You still see lifetimes next to 'stable' elements because nothing is actually stable on long enough time scales.

Granted, 10^~45 years may seem like a long time, but I am sure it would still feel short if that was the norm. ;-)
