Did no one else notice the name of the lead author? Ralph C. Merkle [1] is a rather well known computer scientist, involved in public-key cryptography, hashing algorithms, and inventor of the Merkle Tree [2] that is at the core of the blockchain.

Yes, he's collaborated with Eric Drexler, the author of Engines of Creation at the Forsight Institute.
