I'll restate your point: 'they're arguing for the ability to share information about their ILLEGAL drug use without social sanctions.'

That's the difference between alcohol and LSD.

Why is it illegal? Alcohol is vastly more dangerous than LSD. That's the real difference, so it's curious that the legality is the other way around.
