If you interview somewhere and feel that the questions are arbitrary or capricious -- that's a good thing. They just put up a giant red flag so you know not to work there.

I can't help feeling like it's a cargo-cult type thing. People saw Google's interview questions in the early 2000's, noticed how successful Google's recruiting was, and have been poorly imitating the process ever since in an attempt to get the same results.
