Back before the demise of what.cd, I used Wine for Exact Audio Copy. As far as I know, there was still no "approved" cd ripper that would run natively on Linux.

I remember opening the thread shortly before WhatCD died. Whipper, a fork of Morituri had passed all the tests and was awaiting admin approval for at least 6 months.

What do you mean by "approved"? I've used cdparanoia for years, and abcde is quite a nice frontend for it.

WhatCD was a torrent tracker focusing on high quality and rare audio files. Your upload wouldn't be accepted if it wasn't made using an approved ripper.
