I would frequently use

   "My name is {name} and I am {age} years old".format(**locals())

... but I always felt a little guilty like this is some kind of dynamic-programming-on-steroids trick that I should use sparingly.

Ha, I love that trick but always feel guilty because it's breaking "explicit is better than implicit" and someone on the internet told me it's poor style. Very happy the new style was implemented.
