Ask HN: Developer Laptops – Best Alternatives to MacBook Pro?

from the ask-hn dept.

After a very disappointing MacBook Pro update, I'm left wondering what my next developer laptop should be. I'm currently using a 2011 MacBook Pro 15" at home and a 2013 MacBook Pro 13" at work. I'd prefer something with a 6th or 7th gen quad core Intel processor a decent graphics card that can handle 2 external monitors @1080p or higher. I've seen some of the offerings from Dell and then gaming laptops from Razer.

TLDR: What non-Apple laptops do developers out there use?

I'm also interested in this. The razor edge looks amazing. What the MacBook pros should've been. I don't care about using Windows as a day to day, but dev exp is key. A Unix environment is everything. Sure, you can bash on Ubuntu on Windows, but is beta and glitchy. Hackingtosh support for the razor will break all the awesome things about the razor.
