"So much of "SmartHome" is solutions in search of a problem"

Being a bit neurotic about switching off appliances before traveling and leaving our home unoccupied for a while I would throw money at any service that could allow me to tell what devices were on or off in my home at any time.

I do sort of have a solution involving an iPhone that I use at the moment - but it's a bit silly....
