The funny/ironic thing is that ffmpeg (they HATE when people spell it FFmpeg -- FFmpeg is to ffmpeg as Frisco is to San Francisco) is very likely infringing on MPEG LA's patents. They have a glob of evasive rhetoric tiptoeing around that issue ("we are not lawyers," etc.) in their FAQ while not failing to expose their hypocrisy.
