I'm not surprised that transportation infrastructure is more difficult in a country that is 221 times larger than Switzerland and has less than 1/5th of the population density.

The old population density arguments for poor rail and Internet service don't hold much water when you consider how relatively flat much of the US is, and that even high density areas are often poorly served.

There are plenty of areas in the Us with high population density and they still don't have good infrastructure. They Us has just given up on planning for the future.
Transportation infrastructure in Switzerland is actually quite difficult because you have huge mountains everywhere.
