Have you tried Jetson boards. Jetson Orin Nano have pretty decent gpu for $500.
Re:We Choose Profit at 37signals on Thursday March 14, 2024 @04:14PM (#39708450)
I agree there are many out there using fake outrage for personal gain and ladder climbing. In this case DHH's frat club behavior was publicly called out. Instead of accepting responsibility he called timeout to cover his own behind. 37 lost business and credibility from the fallout. That's hardly harmless.
Re:We Choose Profit at 37signals on Thursday March 14, 2024 @03:41PM (#39708138)
Employees came forward that 37 kept a list of "funny" customer names - some offensive and racist. Instead of fixing the problem Fried and DHH banned employees talking about it. Later it came out DHH was a contributor to the list. https://www.theverge.com/2021/4/27/22406673/basecamp-politic...
Re:Silicon Valley is pricing academics out of AI research on Wednesday March 13, 2024 @03:57PM (#39696623)
It's not always the money. Many academics labs are toxic work environments compare to industry labs.
Re:Japan's Space One rocket explodes seconds after liftoff on Wednesday March 13, 2024 @12:03AM (#39688000)
I wonder participating in ISS was a mistake for Japan. It sucked up most of Japan's space program budget with very little to show for.
I love the little hand flap that does max regen. Bolt could be a cult classic too bad GM was in such hurry to kill it.
Re:Generating a 3D map with OpenStreetMap and A-Frame on Wednesday March 06, 2024 @05:07PM (#39622312)
For those interested in a no-code solution, I was able to do something similar in Figma with help of some plugins:

1. Use Mapcrate plugin to pull in OSM layers as vector layers: https://www.figma.com/community/plugin/1251030017228239072/v...

2. Extrude polygon layers using Fig3d: https://www.figma.com/community/plugin/946020080871644950/fi...

Tim Sweeney could lead by example and remove Unreal royalty fees and make his app store free for all. There's no freedom fighter here. Just another greedy troll.
It's insane how many companies went down the "full self driving by 2020" rabbit hole.

This is the type of work ML should excel at.
Re:Juno – A YouTube Client for Vision Pro on Friday February 02, 2024 @12:30AM (#39225406)
I have a feeling is going to be a speedrun of the reddit saga. Google obviously doesn't want a smooth youtube experience on vision pro.
Doesn't Unreal charge a "core technology fee"?
Re:Why are so many EV charging stations broken in California? on Wednesday January 24, 2024 @12:35PM (#39120087)
I noticed many inoperable chargepoint chargers are due to the broken plug clip - it's a plastic clip that snaps easily when exposed to weather. It's truly poor design and even worse maintenance.
Re:Show HN: Atlas – GIS and interactive maps in the browser on Tuesday January 23, 2024 @03:17PM (#39109136)
If you are interested in making map art, there's a Figma plugin that can pull map data as vector: https://www.figma.com/community/plugin/1251030017228239072

Supply chains are global. Germany still has an edge on machine tools and precision engineering.
Re:Rabbit: LLM-First Mobile Phone on Tuesday January 09, 2024 @03:07PM (#38931304)
Does the LLM run on device or in cloud. Can't find any info on the website but I assume device that size everything runs in the backend?
Re:Clicks – Physical keyboard for iPhone on Thursday January 04, 2024 @04:18PM (#38872392)
Yes it's in the video. Part of the pitch is "no bluetooth just plugs into your charging port".
Re:Clicks – Physical keyboard for iPhone on Thursday January 04, 2024 @04:00PM (#38872175)
I have a feeling this is going to get bent in my pocket and damage the charging port. A desk stand with integrated keyboard would have been better.
Re:SMERF: Streamable Memory Efficient Radiance Fields on Wednesday December 13, 2023 @10:53PM (#38637563)
Is it possible to use zip-nerf to train GS to eliminate the floaters.
Re:SMERF: Streamable Memory Efficient Radiance Fields on Wednesday December 13, 2023 @09:28PM (#38637078)
Why is there a 300m^2 footprint limit if the sub-models are dynamically loaded. Is this constrained by training, rasterizing, or both?
Re:ReconFusion: 3D Reconstruction with Diffusion Priors on Friday December 08, 2023 @01:31PM (#38572428)
Things are moving so fast it's hard to keep track. Is nerf still a worthy avenue or is GS + meshing the way to go.

Re:Please ignore the deluge of complete nonsense about Q* on Friday November 24, 2023 @09:04PM (#38410478)
It feels more like spin to distract people from the insane board coup drama.
Re:I deeply regret my participation in the board's actions on Monday November 20, 2023 @04:26PM (#38355062)
There were some rumors in the beginning that Adam D'Angelo used similar tactics to push out Quora cofounders. I thought it was too wild to be true.

A scab ceo is not something I expected. This timeline is strange.
Musk recruited Ilya from Google to start OpenAI. Musk was ousted by Altman. Now Altman is ousted by Ilya.

Re:Made in China 2025 on Friday November 17, 2023 @11:46AM (#38306075)
Taiwan doesn't own any IP behind the semiconductor manufacturing pipeline. China was going down the same path until it was interrupted by US's chip war. Now it's forced to develop its own lithography machines and software. It's a massive own goal by US politicians.
