Monitoring request - dynamic configuration. Using Nagios requires configuration file changes and service reload
Would prefer dynamic, on the fly configuration. Even better, configuration that can be adjusted externally, possibly from a web API endpoint. Better still, configuration that IS external, where the monitoring service queries an external service every X minutes to determine what to monitor.
Performant - In the realm of 6 oid monitoring of 50,000+ devices in 5 minute intervals
You believe the government had no hand in the success Facebook has had?
CCI Systems - Iron Mountain, MI (remote)
We build software for provisioning, monitoring and supporting networks. Most of our stack is in Ruby on Rails right now, but we are in the process of breaking things apart into smaller services that can be consumed by our SPAs and iOS/Android apps.
Perks:
* 100% remote team.
* Flexible schedule. Outside of a few regular meetings, get work done on your own schedule.
* Medical, dental and vision insurance.
* A stipend for investing in your health (e.g. gym memberships or buying your own workout equipment).
* ESOP program.

Front End Engineer:
* Build UIs for things like provisioning network equipment, dashboards for reporting monitoring information and ticketing systems for the support team.
* Maintain a UI component kit, similar to Bootstrap and Foundation, that is shared between all of our applications.
* Most of our new UI work is in Angular, but we are actively exploring other tools, like React, for our desktop UIs and mobile development.
Disagree. On the consumer side, I care more about auto-playing audio than bandwidth. On the content owner side, I only want my videos to autoplay (in most circumstances) if it were accompanied by the audio. If I didn't care about audio accompaniment I can already use GIF.

I just finished up the front-end of a large pilot project for a fortune 500 retail company (in-store, touch-screen) using AngularJS and SASS and I'm at a good point to look for an opportunity if one arises. My preferred backend is Ruby on Rails but I've previously done multiple projects with Python and Django (also Flask.)
I approve this message, as I am a web software developer in the midwest. I'm also involved in a great startup focused community here,
http://digitalfertilizer.org/ with a network of high quality developers and designers, many of whom are full-time employed by startups all across the country.
I'm also on the market for remote work. Same username on Twitter.
Opinion on a good CRM that isn't Salesforce?
I never claimed there was a good solution, because the point you make is very valid.
Emphasis. A good number of those defending Google are saying they can do whatever they want with your reviews because they are public.
The concern, at least for me, is not that a "public" review being used in a "public" way, it's that these businesses are now paying Google for my review and I get no cut. When I wrote this review I didn't write it to help this business out, per se, I wrote it because I wanted to help potential consumers decide where to do business based on my experiences.
Hey shykes,
This is something I'm still not quite clear on. According to the issues in mention here: https://github.com/dotcloud/docker/issues/1185 it is possible to do what StavrosK is asking. What am I missing? Why would a volume need an initial state when when the goal can be accomplished with a bind mount?
I also +1'd the documentation issue because I can't seem to wrap my head around what the current state of volumes and mounting is. Appreciate any direction you could point me in.
Basically. One thing to consider is the fact that decoupling applications and services they interact with is generally considered a good practice. What services does a web application need? Generally speaking, a web process to handle requests, a database, and maybe some in-memory storage such as memcache. What docker can do is script the creation of these services as containers that can be deployed "anywhere." So say you have your web app now, and your 3 services are on a single server and the load is getting heavy because of database queries. Docker makes it extremely easy to reliably move the services between servers to handle the load better.
Albeit this is a very simplified vision, I don't think the complete use cases for docker have been hashed out quite yet. tl;dr dev ops is about to get magnitudes easier.
In my experience, shipping fast wasn't the determining factor. It's always been to build tangible features for feedback purposes, and to focus development efforts on the core of what provides the value. Shipping fast is a side effect of maintaining this type of focus.
Foreseeable roadmap for Web Sockets?
I can say I was initially not convinced this would take off. 175 pull requests later I've changed my tune. Now that we know there is a large talent pool interested in such a task, I wonder how much structure could be added before interest starts to subside. Surely something fantastic could come of this, but we just proved it needs a bit more direction.
I would personally love to see the "Alternative Approach" of using something along the lines of AngularJS to decouple an administrative API and a client side application. Arguably, with an appropriately designed API, this could be substantially more future-proof. Not to mention I think could end up being a big developer draw to the framework.
If you want to see how awesome it is, here's what you do. Purchase some tickets for a sporting event, and schedule a reservation for a restaurant afterwards. Make sure you purchase the tickets online and get the reservation through something like OpenTable so the confirmations get to your email.
Enjoy!
To add to this point, I personally find the smaller the goal the better. The quicker I can get gratification the more willing I am to continue working at it.
If you have the freedom to make decisions, you also have the responsibility of being correct.I'm not sure of the full intentions of the article nor your comment, but I think you may have missed a major point here. The article does not seem to argue that insanely smart people know all the right answers; instead it argues that insanely smart people have a pretty good idea when something is a bad idea, and will be the type of person who works out the right answer prior to pushing it live. That said, the other cases is covered as well...
Actually, mistakes are fine. They’re something you trade off for other variables like speed of iteration.
This means some major vaccine has been developed, and some major life threatening illness cured, right? Am I right?
Firearms, not entertainment, lead to mass shootings, and yet gamers have irrevocably become implicated in the conversation over violence in America.Ha.
The one thing I've always struggled with is translating design as described by a landing page to the design of specific components; Forms, modals, and other parts of the application. I would like to see combination screen shots of landing pages and these components to see how the designer was able to achieve this.
Maybe beyond the scope of "inspiration," but my two cents none-the-less.
If only a single play call had a single potential outcome, and that outcome was always met. Using these stats for predictions would seem extremely difficult beyond answering, "will it be a run or a pass?"
I love the innovation in the guitar lesson space, and I signed up for this in a heartbeat. That said, does anyone have suggestion for a piano alternative?
The biggest problem I see startups having (at least the ones I have insight into, consulting and whatnot,) is their founders are too far from the technical. I agree founding and coding is hard to manage, but without a developer on the same level with the same goals, you're shooting your business in the foot.
Good question. I don't have an answer as I have only been recently evaluating them myself. I was pretty close to trying out
https://github.com/Mathew/django-ab because of its simplicity.
Do you have proof? I know that on opening Friday we saw it sit at $38.00 and that was obviously MS, but since then I don't see any evidence in the stock price that this has happened since. On the 23rd the stock traded at 31.53 a few times but later in the day traded at 31.52.
I'd love to see MS take a beating for that 100m they got for underwriting this poorly orchestrated IPO, I just haven't been able to see it happening unless there is proof I am unaware of.
Excellent article. Did you run into any major pain points when ramping up with Backbone? Any resources you used that you would recommend to a newcomer?
I like this idea a lot, but you're right. There needs to be a clear distinction made along the lines of, "this is not scientific and if you are interested we will give you a chance regardless of score."
But this is of course at the discretion of Divio.
