Re:Is this the death of the late night US chat show? on Saturday July 19, 2025 @10:45PM (#44621534)
It's true. Research Project Mockingbird. It's still happening, and Colbert is one of them.

Good riddance. Just a bunch of CIA psyops anyway.
Re:I avoid using LLMs as a publisher and writer on Saturday July 19, 2025 @08:53AM (#44615102)
It's not sad, it's using modern tools to learn. People that don't embrace the future get left behind.
Re:AI is turning Apple into a "loser" on Thursday July 10, 2025 @09:31AM (#44520842)
This is just a dumb article. Comparing Apple to AOL is insane.
Re:TikTok Is Harming Children at an Industrial Scale on Thursday April 17, 2025 @10:45AM (#43717659)
100% agree. They know exactly what they are doing. They are playing a long game of subtle cultural warfare.
Re:TikTok Is Harming Children at an Industrial Scale on Thursday April 17, 2025 @10:41AM (#43717583)
We all know how controlling and evil the CCP is... Citations not needed!
Re:TikTok Is Harming Children at an Industrial Scale on Thursday April 17, 2025 @10:35AM (#43717477)
Why so much Whataboutism? Can't you just accept the fact that the CCP is Evil?
"An obvious manipulation tactic on the path to abolish cash."

This was the first thing I thought.

Re:Heap-overflowing Llama.cpp to RCE on Wednesday March 26, 2025 @11:38AM (#43483388)
Can anyone tl/dr this? Does this mean that its possible for a maliciously crafted LLM to execute arbitrary code via an exploit in llama.cpp?
I can relate to this. I also used typewriters, and my first computer was a mac plus. vim felt so weird and alien to me.

Then I decided to really give it a try and let go of everything I had learned. Now I'm a daily neovim user. kickstart.nvim is really what made it possible to use as a daily coding tool.

I actually really like the idea of websites that allow you to edit the content and save it locally... IMO, this is brilliant and should stay as is.
This is so good. Thank you for this.

Some of us just actally really like kagi...
Re:I still like Sublime Text in 2025 on Wednesday January 29, 2025 @11:39AM (#42867311)
I use neovim, but I also pay for sublime text because it's just good.
Re:I still like Sublime Text in 2025 on Wednesday January 29, 2025 @11:36AM (#42867252)
Deep understanding and being able to reason about problems is more important than speed. Offloading too much to LLMs has a detrimental effect on our brains.

I'm not saying don't use LLMs. Use them in ways that increase your skills, and be wary of using them in ways that atrophy your skills.

MLK files are crazy! Dude was having diddy parties.
People about to learn the power of network effects.
I use all three of those things every day... Couldn't imagine my life without them now.
Re:Node.js adds experimental support for TypeScript on Thursday July 25, 2024 @08:57AM (#41068150)
I would rather raw dog JavaScript than write Typescript. Typescript is an abomination.
"Born too late to enjoy exponential asset growth."

Unless you bought Bitcoin...

I just recently found out about automerge from this youtube channel. https://www.youtube.com/@localfirstfm

I love the idea of "local first software" https://www.inkandswitch.com/local-first/

Was expecting AI generated images of 'supermodel granny'... Was glad to see pictures of mice.
I paid for an Orion Plus lifetime license (browser made by kagi). I'd happily pay for Firefox too if it was an option.
Re:To the Bored All Things Are Boring on Tuesday June 25, 2024 @10:03AM (#40788789)
My wife is always complaining that we need to let our child be bored. There seems to be some benefits.

https://childmind.org/article/the-benefits-of-boredom/

I spoke with Mike before one of his last shows. I told him that I head they they suck live. He told me they got better.
NOFX is still one of my all time favorite bands. So strange to see them mentioned on hacker news!
Re:More ARM Linux Laptops Are on the Way on Monday June 24, 2024 @10:04AM (#40776204)
The CCP isn't known for being trustworthy...
Re:C can be memory safe on Thursday June 20, 2024 @05:43PM (#40743735)
I think a better term would have been "non-breaking backwards compatible change". hard/soft forks are very much the jargon used when talking about ways to upgrade blockchain based protocols.
I assume pi hole users running unbound are not effected by this?
