Re:Redesigning Source Control at Anthropic on Tuesday October 13, 2026 @02:30PM (#50076376)
How does this compare to Google's in-house source control?

Most companies don't use mono-repos like this. While there are some really compelling advantages, the downsides tend to stack up as a company's codevbase grows.

It's mainly just startups and huge companies. For small companies git works fine for mono-repos and large companies can build their own complex code management pipelines for mono-repos.

I have been questioning whether agentic development changes the mono-repo vs multi-repo question.

I've been vibe coding a game on the side.

It really makes me appreciate how important good game design is. Claude is doing a fine job coding everything I describe, but it doesn't really understand fun, so I need to.

(It's not a great game)

Re:Google Takes the A.I. Data Center Race to Outer Space on Thursday September 24, 2026 @12:28PM (#49833017)
I think one of the reasons for putting these in space is to move them beyond the borders of any national control.
How are they solving the heat dissipation issues?
Re:Google's Open Agentic Orchestrator on Monday September 21, 2026 @05:28PM (#49793701)
I am confused by this. The UX of the CLI is almost identical to kubectl, but it doesn't seem to actually be built on K8s CRDs. There's a backend that runs on k8s, but doesn't seem natively integrated.

Because it's using `ax apple` instead of `kubectl apply` you can't use tools like argocd for managing resources.

It's built on agent substrate which is built on top of k8s CRDs, so I'm surprised.

Is the throughput of these objects too high for etcd?

Re:Navier-Stokes – Tristan Buckmaster [pdf] on Tuesday September 08, 2026 @06:55PM (#49618308)
Could you just start engineering "leaks" of new proofs so that Anthropic or OpenAI just start burning $10million in compute
How does this compare to parametric modeling tools like Fusion/Solidworks/ProE ? Is it more about the integration with game specific tools?
The only thing that is "better" in space is the efficiency of solar energy. Everything else is harder and more expensive

* Rockets costs more than trucks for moving things around * No water in space for cooling/heat transfer * Heat dissipation is difficult because vacuum is the best insulator * How do you repair one? * network bandwidth is probably lower

Re:Tailscale didn't stop the Hugging Face intrusion on Friday July 31, 2026 @06:46PM (#49129399)
Its always CI. Whenever I've worked with good pen testers they always start with Jenkins, know that people stored creds and there and didn't treat as seriously as they treated production.
Re:Grok 4.5 on Wednesday July 08, 2026 @06:41PM (#48838348)
I am amazed at people's willingness to use Grok. The company is so transparently morally bankrupt. They're the only AI company that seems okay with CSAM (or at least don't do as much to stop it)

Why give them money?

It would be one thing if they were the only game in town but thats definitely not the case.

Re:Gas Town: From Clown Show to v1.0 on Tuesday April 14, 2026 @09:53PM (#47773760)
Ehhh in my experience compliance auditors are 10 behind the cutting edge. I still see auditors that don't understand Kubernetes and so ask the same questions they would about on prem machines. They don't know the questions to ask to get to the real meat of the risks. This leads them to allow things through that probably deserve more scrutiny. I bet the same thing will happen with LLM tools like this. They'll just ask if you use PRs and wave you on through.
Re:30 Years Ago, Robots Learned to Walk Without Falling on Tuesday March 31, 2026 @02:11PM (#47591317)
yeah came here to say that. Leg lab was doing robotic locomotion in the 80s

Leg Lab evolved into Boston Dynamics, which have been (and maybe continue to be) the leader in real bipedal walking.

Re:Japanese Woodblock Print Search on Saturday February 21, 2026 @10:48PM (#47107937)
Pretty sure this was made by John Resig, the creator of jQuery.

I used to be friends with him back in the day and he described wanting to do something like this. He was/is a passionate dude.

Either you trust AI or you don't? If you don't trust it then you need to review what it's writing.

Docker seems like a pretty low complexity way to create an isolated environment to run automation.

Re:Functional Programming Lessons Conclusion on Monday April 14, 2025 @01:38PM (#43683953)
I've always thought that there should be mutability of objects within the function that created them, but immutability once the object is returned.

Ultimately one of the major goals of immutability is isolation of side effects.

It doesn't support Macs yet
Re:MacBook Air M4 on Wednesday March 05, 2025 @02:51PM (#43271408)
I think the M1 was a pretty huge innovation. It's the first time a laptop felt portable and without compromise. I can get a full day of work out of my laptop without plugging it in. It's pretty wild.

Before this laptops were simply things that were small enough that you could carry one from point A to point B, but they were still effectively tethered to a wall and desk for any non-trivial usecases.

Re:Facebook Ban on Linux on Tuesday January 28, 2025 @12:43AM (#42849230)
It makes sense

I assume Facebook doesn't want anything posted on FB that can't be turned into a racist diatribe. There's not a whole lot of racism potential in Kernel tuning.

Maybe you could squeeze in anti-Finnish rant about Linus, but it would be minimal

Re:Show HN: DIY 80€ 3D Printer Basement Ventilation on Tuesday December 10, 2024 @06:08PM (#42382725)
I just ordered by first 3D printer, I'm not normally sensitive to air quality issues, but my partner is, so I spent some time doing some research on the issue.

It's amazing how many people believe "if you can't smell it, there's no problem" and quite incorrectly assume that things like PLA won't hurt them. Surely minimal exposure is fine, but 3d printers run over many hour periods and those VOCs can build up.

I decided to be safe and bought a basic fabric enclosure with an exhaust fan that vents to the outdoors. It's probably not perfect, but maintaining negative pressure inside the enclosure should remove most particulates. I wouldnt handle bromine in it.

I'm worried about all the folks running print farms in their house with minimal ventilation.

They really committed an original sin by omitting generics in early versions of Go, it was added in more recent versions, but too late IMO.

When I finished the book, I was so disappointed that it was over.

Supposedly the original manuscript was like 40% longer. I hope thats published some day.

Is the Flipper Zero still legit? I know it’s only quasi legal in some places. I see a lot of ads for it to the point where I kind of suspect it’s some sort of FBI entrapment program. Maybe I’m just being paranoid.

Re:A Kubernetes Query Language on Saturday August 31, 2024 @12:13AM (#41406505)
I should know this, but does K8s actually store objects as a graph internally?

Is this doing multiple api calls? How does it perform at scale?
