I'm sad that there seems to be no RSS feed. It looks very nice indeed if I can remember to look.

It seems to me that Brooks' point was that it took time for new developers in an existing team to understand what work had already been done. They also needed time to understand the state of evolving or unclear requirements, as OP points out.
My small experience with AI makes me think that it can analyze and understand requirements and code very quickly, so I suspect that Brooks' maxim may not apply to AI.

Recently I've learned lots of stuff from CHATgpt and Gemini chats. And, of course, Youtube has taught me a lot.

It seems to me that Google once had wonderful regular expression searches. That all got blown up when they introduced "Google+", thereby destroying REs.

There's still a tremendous amount of information available via RSS. I pay for Feedly so that I can annotate and save interesting articles.
Of course, this is not a way to search for things.

Does your Quaker Meeting pay for groups.io? Their website seems to say that the cheapest plan is $20/month, too much for my group to afford. Thanks.

Could you explain more about this "Basic" free tier? When I go to https://groups.io/static/pricing, I see a free 30-day account, after which it becomes $20/month. You're not the first person who has said there's a free plan at groups.io but I don't seem able to get one myself. Have their plans changed recently?

It has seemed to me for quite some time that Amazon deliberately tries NOT to return what you are searching for. Oh, they'll give you one or two items that fit your search criteria, but they'll also return lots of stuff that they think you'll be interested in and possibly buy.

Way back when the CS department was still in Old West, I remember seeing Dr. Brooks at different lectures and talks, always taking notes. I try to emulate his example but I'm nowhere as consistent as he was. At least in my old age I'm still trying to learn things, just as he is.
Re:Ask HN: Do you still read RSS feeds?
on Sunday February 21, 2016 @01:10AM (#11143538)
Yes. I use list view most of the time because it hides images and lets me see thousands of items as quickly as possible with a minimum of scrolling. I use feedly, but still miss Reader, which had some features that feedly is missing.

Blockchain Girl and the HN commenters go on and on about the end of nation states, apparently imagining that they will be replaced by free individuals, being all libertarian and everything!!??
The word "corporation" is not used even once there or here!!
At least michaelmrose is spot-on.

Maybe it's because I'm a grumpy old man, but I really do think that our species is doomed to unhappiness and poverty.

I no longer trust Google to keep its own services - they've gotten rid of too many projects. On the plus side, you usually have time to download your data before the service dies.
