This biased post pollutes HN.
if the author truly buy-in the idea of new cold war, then holywood, youtube, and facebook are weapons too. the author even try to use blog platform and public forum like HN as weapon as well.

both macOS and ChromeOS are bind to the device in most case. So this conclusion means that Chromebook device had already sold more than the whole macOS device volume?

why will we need such service? If we have to include the detailed IP address in the URL, why not direct access use IP address itself?
Re:To Break Google’s Monopoly on Search, Make Its Index Public
on Monday July 15, 2019 @09:24PM (#20446775)
The key for goolge's monopoly is not only its index algorithm capability, but also the brand, the chrome browser, the android and all other google product integration.

airdrop is actually like a security hole when Apple set "open to everyone" by default.
There are already quite some cases using it to send * photos as sex harassment.
Apple should set default to "only contacts".
Re:We Can Do Better Than SQL
on Thursday May 09, 2019 @09:42PM (#19874335)
criticism on SQL does not make it meaningful for a new database. I mean, an ORM with its own query language, a new SQL dialect, some language that compile to standard and optimized SQL are all good ideas.

An quick stop for the possbile privacy disaster for Apple is to stop group facetime call at once but not wait for later this week for bug fix.
Could image that quite some one might already try to peek for privacy using this.
Re:Some notes about HTTP/3
on Saturday November 24, 2018 @11:33PM (#18525485)
why not just http/quic?
using 3 seems strongly suggest that it is the next generation of http.
They knew that but pretend it is not relavent.
Re:What the f*** is the edge?
on Sunday August 12, 2018 @03:24AM (#17743360)
I think for most cases, "on the edge" means some devices on the sites of those IOT sensors/small collection machine installed. In compare to "on the cloud" which means on the server hosted by Amazon/Azure etc.
Re:How to get kids to pay attention
on Sunday July 01, 2018 @10:22PM (#17438916)
The genereal idea is to let the children themselves want something with passion and they will pay attention. (not only to child in fact).
However, one of the simple way to do that is NOT autonomy as the article suggest, but to make that thing sparse, precious and difficult to get. The children does not have the right to be well educated, will pay more attention comparing to those who have plenty already.

Re:Don’t Fix Facebook, Replace It
on Thursday April 05, 2018 @01:13AM (#16761970)
If privacy is really a concern, one should live like Jack Reacher, even not use credit card.
Current situation is that, we want to happy share and attract attention on facebook. If it did something wrong, let the court sues it.
Re:Ask a Female Engineer: Thoughts on the Google Memo

Take the example of plumber, any girls are expected to be a plumber? Engineer is a bit alike as techical. The different part in google case is more mental but not physical.
Re:Chrome Won
on Friday May 26, 2017 @07:52AM (#14423404)
Chrome is good, but not that better than firefox to lead to a chrome only world.
Just like in the past, whenever you open a windows PC, you see IE on it, so IE ruled. Now whenever you open google to search something, you see suggestion to ask you to install chrome. However, nowhere on internet will suggest you to install firefox.
That is a huge difference.

If everything fine with Python 2 on the current project, why bother to upgrade Django 2.0 which will break the compatibility?
Re:Visual Studio Code is now open source
on Wednesday November 18, 2015 @11:01PM (#10592647)
A good editor does not need to be open source to have a good eco-system based on plugins (like sublime).
The MIT license seems to be friendly who would fork to make a more specific editor for some special language/purpose.
Re:“We have decided not to integrate the Dart VM into Chrome”
on Wednesday March 25, 2015 @09:42PM (#9267318)
this announcement seems to be like a sign of losing attention from the management team. So maybe some time later, it will be another R.I.P product from google.
