Good thing we came to terms with that in 1789.

Very little on the "how", a lot of complaining that someone is able to publicize what occurs in publicly funded schools, and a huge amount of insinuation that anyone who wants to control their children's education has "blood on their hands".
Re:FCC rules AI-generated voices in robocalls illegal on Thursday February 08, 2024 @08:00PM (#39310048)
This thread wildly misunderstands "chevron deference". "Ending chevron deference" does not somehow throw us into a Mad Max anarchic hellscape where agencies cannot actually do anything, because there is always some standard for what administrative rulemaking is permissible. There is a broader question of how much leeway they have, but clarifying that AI generated voices count as "artificial" under the statute barely requires a regulation, any more than they need one to say "hit in the head with a computer" constitutes an "assault".
Gerrymandering is required by federal law to make sure that blacks are able to elect black representatives; this has obvious second order effects in how the rest of the map is drawn under adversarial conditions. Somehow it seems unlikely that this requirement is going away anytime soon, so any proposed mechanism that does not accommodate this constraint is going to be impractical.
We learned during the COVID school shutdowns that schools would really prefer parents not be aware of what actually goes on during a typical schoolday.
Did you know that within living memory there was an entire network of anonymous telephones you could pay for with untraceable cash in five cent increments?
It's a little bit academic as most platforms (eg zoom) notify participants of in-band recording, and employee handbooks will often mention the possibility of recording and retention.
They will admit testimony by some cop to explain that "based on my training and experience, I believe 'going to the pool' to be code for 'soliciting a murder'"
EU governance structure is set up so that a EU parliament resolution has basically the status of a People's Choice Award.

That looks like a copy-paste of their general TOS, "...but for AI".
That's worldwide, not US. No one seems to know what these "subsidies" are in the US context other than vague complaints about tax treatment of profits. The numbers are never netted out of, eg, fuel tax either.
Those aren't American numbers. Many countries for instance subsidize fuel, the US taxes it.
Give an example of an American fossil fuel subsidy.

SPLK option expiration dates are weekly out to 6 weeks.
Court historians telling the stories the ruling class wants in an effort to buttress their legitimacy is absolutely not new.
It's called anarcho-tyranny.

The United States absolutely does have multiple quota systems in different domains. https://selectgcr.com/blog/minority-owned-businesses-how-to-...

Identical phenomenon exists in US where groups with well above average incomes are considered officially "disadvantaged groups" for purposes of eg SBA loans.
Re:Iowa using AI to automatically scan and ban books on Wednesday August 16, 2023 @03:55PM (#37152775)
Essentially every country in the world aside from the United States (particularly Europe and UK/AU/NZ/CA as I mentioned) actually bans particular books for real, well beyond "you can't buy it with tax dollars, you can buy a copy at any bookstore though".

Somehow I suspect the kvetching does not die down when the AG is tasked with drawing up a yearly index librorum prohibitorum.
Re:Iowa using AI to automatically scan and ban books on Wednesday August 16, 2023 @03:44PM (#37152607)
When a book is actually "banned", you get thrown in jail for downloading an illegal copy from libgen or conspiring to distribute photocopied samizdat. Consult the United Kingdom for examples.

When legislatures quite rightly try to remove actual pornography and explicit promotion of homosexuality from school libraries, schools do this passive-aggressive bit where they pretend "oh, did you mean shakespeare, I'm so confused :) , you meant the song of solomon right :)"

Similar maintenance schedule to large steel naval vessels. Rust never sleeps.
There's a distinction between a fact witness and an "expert witness". A private agreement can't prevent a court from subpoenaing a fact witness to testify. "Expert witnesses" are overwhelmingly hired guns paid to come in and voluntarily spin a narrative, and I'm not sure why they shouldn't be able to make that a provision of a contract just like any other commercial arrangement.
Re:OpenAI Quietly Shuts Down Its AI Detection Tool on Tuesday July 25, 2023 @11:21AM (#36863639)
You can do this by injecting non visible unicode (LTR / RTL markers, zero width separators, the various "space" analogs, homographs of "normal" characters) but it can obviously be stripped out.
Re:Microsoft lost its keys, and the government got hacked on Tuesday July 18, 2023 @12:14PM (#36774870)
American companies are generally forbidden by EEOC rules from having reasonable security precautions unless some product is associated with a government contract and can require full blown security clearances. As a result you can safely assume that any given department with a juicy portfolio is fully compromised by foreign intelligence.

And the ATF with pistol braces.

It's a standard regulatory tactic at this point.
