Communication important
Was he anti- or just generally skeptical?
Web apps are the barrier? That are accessible to anyone with a browser?

Or gate-kept app stores?

Re:Ask HN: Working in a VR Headset on Saturday November 05, 2022 @08:49PM (#33487557)
The good news is that you "just" need the window manager/display environment of an OS.

The bad news is that it is still a lot of hard work to nail down that kind of experience

I imagine some apps will be VR-optimized and others just flat

Domain driven development
What is the difference?
Make sure you check out abbreviations

Like aliases but they expand in-place, so auto completion friendly, easily modifiable, etc. Love them

$ abbr s sudo

$ s<space> -> sudo

In most I've encountered, PgDn switches to showing you the system boot log
Clean slate mode

I thought that in checks we surround the amount with hashes:

#$105.90#

Is this just local to me?

The multi column layout actually lends very well to reading on mobile
This is the only thing I miss about macos. Last Mac used was snow leopard and I _still_ sometimes find myself wishing for menu search on Linux
> buying a bunch of SIM card from other companies

Sounds like some employees already had those for such an event, which is impressive. From the article:

> some employees started swapping out their SIM cards for Bell or Telus SIM cards that they had received back in 2015 as part of an emergency contingency plan established between the wireless carriers.

But still relevant and sparked interesting discussion
Then again I always come into these threads for the comments, even (/especially) when I know the software bring discussed.

There is usually interesting discussion, info and tips - like in this thread.

What is false about this?
This was a great read and indeed quite tragic

> People have been trying to build a library like this for ages—to do so, they’ve said, would be to erect one of the great humanitarian artifacts of all time—and here we’ve done the work to make it real and we were about to give it to the world and now, instead, it’s 50 or 60 petabytes on disk, and the only people who can see it are half a dozen engineers on the project who happen to have access because they’re the ones responsible for locking it up.

Could have been great but it wasn't perfect for everyone so it was scraped because surely Congress would take up this noble quest...

Did they have a successful test? The last news I caught had 1/3 failures or something like that
> However, a “wallet drainer” is just another way of saying “phishing website”

From the article

So build them on a VPS?

Something about a serious analysis of a ridiculous subject feels quintessentially "Hacker".

No idea why.

My favorite was this:

"A game without someone to play it is hardly a game, and it’s only because of our players that our games have meaning and a life of their own."

A lot of 2FA SMS will refuse to send to VOIP providers.

Since moving a mobile number to twilio and setting up forward scripts, I can get SMS, including short code sms, but the 2FA sms do not get delivered.

Twilio support said it is blocked from the sender side due to the provider being Voip. As hard as it is to believe, I think they're telling the truth.

A vCPU also represents a CPU _thread_ which is usually half a core.

Sometimes you will share the CPU.

No, respect is default, until lost.
I grew up in a somewhat vehicularly lawless society where mopeds going the wrong way down a one-way street are an everyday phenomenon.

I legitimately look _thrice_ before crossing: expected traffic side, other side and back once again.

I am paranoid about getting hit by a bus/car/...

I'll likely be done for by a falling piano.

Oh this is great, I remember z for gzip but always have to look up J vs j for bzip2/xz
