Scaleway seem to have a better solution https://www.scaleway.com/en/blog/how-we-turn-apples-mac-mini...

Uptime.lab (see Insta) deshells M2sand runs them bare a bit like GitHub does

Welcome to the world of SaaS services on the web!

Integrity reporting can detect when the script changes

Why would you even load a library script from a third-party when hosting it yourself is more performant and more secure?
Re:Building an AI-native engineering org on Friday October 30, 2026 @06:00PM (#50310708)
Funny you should say this… there another post on HN about engineers using AI are going to make PMs redundant!
Re:Product Managers aren't safe either on Friday October 30, 2026 @05:50PM (#50310620)
Other this PMs do is apply judgement and make trade offs… current generation of LLMs sin’t going to do that
What's wrong with paying for serious news?
SRI only really works if the 3rd-party script never changes, in which case why is it a third-party script?

If it changes and the hash no longer matches perhaps due customer changing config then the site is faced with the challenge of either the browser refusing to load the script (with potential breakage) or reporting the change which then is probably ignored

It's not really a simple fix for the way the web is built today

Re:Polymarket got hacked on Friday October 30, 2026 @06:55AM (#50302243)
They're a very small company (one or two people) and based on public posts have engaged a security incident response company

If their domains were compromised they were probably recommended to take it down for now

There is the FT covers it…

> Its largest commitment is with Broadcom, which co-develops the TPU AI processors with Google and leases them to Anthropic in deals worth $161bn over five years. From 2028, Anthropic expects to spend up to $150bn more on TPUs.

Re:The Curse of Soldered RAM on Monday October 26, 2026 @05:10AM (#50241098)
My work laptop has just been ‘upgraded’ to a standard issue MBP14 and I so miss my MBA13 (fortunately I have one as my personal laptop)
Oh sweet child…
Re:We should be more ambitious with the software we build on Sunday October 25, 2026 @04:10AM (#50229343)
I think we should be more ambitious with the font size we use…
Well they’re still not profitable!

And before anyone quibbles that they have a positive Gross Profit, Net Income is what matters…

I didn’t bring race into it… all the right wingers who’ve talked about Kahn being a Muslim and his heritage did!
Labour increased their vote in the 2023 Uxbridge and South Ruislip by election but not by enough to win… they then won it a year later

Yes, in 2023 ULEZ was a campaign issue but so was it when Khan was reelected mayor and Labour won a general election

ULEZ is fundamentally a good thing whether you like it or not

> “some” indeed

Well he flipped one of them from Conservative and didn’t lose any of the ones that had previously voted for him and his vote was up overall

Most of the increase in the UK has come since the Russian invasion of Ukraine spiked gas prices
It's interesting to look at the all time demand at the bottom of https://grid.iamkate.com and see that demand has one dropped from 36GW to 30GW since 2012
There wasn't 'much opprobrium', there were a bunch of radicalised mainly white men opposing it who made a lot of noise backed by right wing newspapers who want to criticise Kahn for Tory government policy

Kahn won the next election including outer boroughs that were affected by the ULEZ expansion

https://metro.co.uk/2024/05/04/map-reveals-london-mayor-elec...

There's also a huge racial undertone to the whole London anti-ULEZ 'debate' as Sadiq Khan is a muslim

Those opposing ULEZ conveniently ignore the Conservative government led by Boris Johnson (ex mayor of London) made ULEZ implementation a key requirement for supporting TfL funding during the pandemic

Despite anti-ULEZ folk claiming it's hugely unpopular Kahn convincing won the next mayoral election including some boroughs that were affected by the ULEZ zone expansion

Number of EVs on the road is growing

BEV is 28% of new car sales HEV is 13%

https://www.smmt.co.uk/vehicle-data/car-registrations/

Reduced fuel duty for diesel came in in 2001 (25yrs ago) and was removed following the scandal of manufacturers cheating the emissions tests in 2015 (11 yrs ago)

We've known diesel emissions are bad for health for a long time and ULEZ schemes improve people's health, particularly children https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c1l1r1zne1ro

But some selfish people still think it's their right to drive highly polluting vehicles and let everyone else bear the cost

ULEZ / LEZ zones are a good thing

Steel smelters used coking coal not electricity

There are still electric arc furnaces in the UK and more are being built

AFAIK we use fracking type techniques in the North Sea

Part of the problem with fracking on mainland UK is not just the tremors but that there’s also not much proven gas either

The North Sea is a mature basin and there isn't that much gas left in the UK sectors
Lime plaster with cork in it works, it's just a messy retrofit

Lime render with cork is the outside version

Hydrogen is a dead end for domestic gas

Eventually everyone will need to switch from gas because as the number of heat pumps rise then number of gas consumers fall and the infrastructure costs for them will become uneconomic

> While it's not impossible to insulate such walls, it's generally inadvisable for many reasons

Lime plaster with cork in it is fine way to insulate these buildings.

It won't be as good as modern materials but is an improvement and is breathable

> Generally, the poorest and oldest people in society occupy these houses,

I own one of these houses – single skin, 200yr old farm workers cottage – I'm neither poor or that old

Much of the expensive old housing in London, Bath etc is single skin too

IME lots of people don't ever consider how data is stored on disk
Re:Postgres isn't slow, your storage is on Monday October 12, 2026 @12:59PM (#50059308)
And then you get people having to spend more to work around its limitations e.g. what Discord did here: https://discord.com/blog/how-discord-supercharges-network-di...
