Today's leftists seem to not have any coherent philosophy at all. It's not better on the other side. Everything seems to be about grievances and assigning blame rather than rationally discussing practical solutions.
You seem to be missing the human element in your calculation. It's not just power plants and the machines that use the electricity from them. The machines are built for humans, who want their clothes washed today so they can be folded today and ready for tomorrow. They want the dishes washed today so they can be put back on the shelves before tomorrow's breakfast. And, by the way, grime on dishes gets more difficult to remove once it has sat drying, waiting for the machine to start.

The committee is selected by the Norwegian parliament, a political body.
Ability to export more will lead to greater production.
It's not at all clear to most Americans what the consequences are. This pipeline, for example, sounds like something Americans should welcome because it will finally allow Canada to offer its oil to the world market in significant quantities. It will allow Canada to export significantly more than they do now, pushing down prices. It wasn't built until now purely because of internal Canadian environmental concerns. If Canadians think it's a good idea to now destroy vast amounts of their forest to get to some of the most difficult to process oil in the world, then that's what it is and they get to make some money as a benefit. But it doesn't seem at all like some kind of rational reaction to American foreign policy.

Google, with the help of Facebook, destroyed the independent online publishing business. They made it impossible to maintain an honest publication and tunneled users to low quality websites until there's not much left of respect.
WW2 ended 81 years ago.
Re:ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026 on Sunday September 27, 2026 @09:50AM (#49866644)
Your group started the history way too late. The 1990s is when the first big computer wave happened and Europe mostly missed on it. And then it could have had its own Google, Facebook, and Uber, but then it missed that too. This is before you start your history in 2008.
You are erasing a real person, with real lived experience, that exists by the count of millions.
It's called "whataboutism" in general. The word is used to easily wave away criticism of the other side of the argument without actually addressing it.

Yes and "linked" is a weasel word to imply something without making a definite statement for which there's no proof.
She's not mythical. She's a female psychopath and that characteristic is fascinating for many people.
What did you do on Greenland?
French people should be occupied by Guyanans who have no historic connection to France. Apparently that makes sense to some people when it's the other way around.
It's not France. The locals like that France gives them goodies so they vote for more goodies and France gives more goodies so they vote accordingly.
French Guyana is occupied territory. That's pretty clear. And so it should be deoccupied and the locals will decide whether to use their land as "sovereign' launch port by Europeans.
The article is shining a light on a serious, potentially devastating situation in Europe. You, due to ignorance or misunderstanding, point out that Americans are supposedly stupid because millions of dollars are roughly millions of euros. But the underlying problem is that it is the Europeans that are worried the most about climate change, and are the ones that have refused to implement mitigating strategies that would help overcome the challenge. They lack energy resources, the will to take action, and rely on blaming others for their predicament. But it is stupid Americans with their energy, air conditioning, and water reservoirs.
Imagine if the watch made a loud gurgling sound, that everyone can hear, every time you checked it.
Canadians don't negotiate when selling their oil? US just sets the price? Amazing.
It follows then that the USA also wants to protect its industries, such as timber, oil and gas, and maple syrup, from Canadian producers that are happy to dump their stuff south of the border for cheaper than US competition.

It's amazing how much is attributed to culture. What if I like more salt? European are not accustomed to ask for salt. What if the chef forgot to add salt? You'll wait till your food is cold. It's culture.

My last trip I gave a $10 tip to a waiter in a Spanish restaurant. I apologized that I didn't have euros. The guy smiled broadly and thanked me. If tip "culture" didn't exist in Europe, he would have thought of me as inappropriate and would have given the money back. Like if you try to give a tip to a firefighter, he'd give it back, because it's not appropriate.

In America, waiting for staff to serve you is considered time lost. In Europe it's called European culture.
Re:Why some US restaurants are banning tips on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @07:16AM (#49431968)
The waiter comes by about twice in a visit, asks you "Is there anything you need?". You say "No thanks". And you get upset by that. And then you complain about Americans and their terrible ways. What sense does that make? Can't you see how rude you are? The person simply came by to check, since that person is your waiter and the goal is that you have a tasty and pleasant time.
Re:Why some US restaurants are banning tips on Tuesday August 25, 2026 @07:08AM (#49431879)
No. After you've ordered, it is rare to order anything else. You might ask for a refill of a beverage or something like ketchup, but the waiter is not expecting more ordering. It's simply expected by diners that their waiter is there and will help with whatever they need. In Europe you'll wait 20 minutes to get the attention of a waiter for salt or ketchup until your food is cold. Also in Europe this will be described not as dead time waiting for a small thing, but as culture. European culture.

"First, they selected 20 rich-world cities with a population of at least 2.5m"...

What about people that live outside the big cities? Almost everyone I know does.

Here in Michigan there are large industrial facilities that most locals have no idea what is done inside. There's noise, electric usage, trucks coming in and out, but most people think it's ok. Data centers are seen differently.

It's effectively xenophobic to comment such as you did about "Americans" without addressing the points by the author, which deal with real, structural issues.
Moreover, because the warming is global and the whole world needs to be part of the solution, we need all the governments of the world to agree to some universal plan of action. This is governments that have trouble agreeing on most things within their respective borders, let alone globally.

You also turned off nuclear power and stayed with lignite, the dirtiest of coals. Soon you'll stop using coal since you won't have much industry left to power. Germany seems confused.
