?????????????????

Sure you will lose a little bit, like 2 or 3% a year. But if you have nothing saved then what will you do in case of an emergency? such as losing a job?

So you're acknowledging the possibility that some might sink?
what?

My life wouldn't change at all if I suddenly started eating 50% less meat. wouldn't change a thing.

>Let me make a meta-point. It's natural to find yourself with a thought of this form: I don't get why so many think ___ is cool.

I don't get why so many think cigarettes are cool.

You're telling me they know something I don't about cigarettes?

Let's be honest. 90% of JS developers out there probably don't even know what a lock is.

I know a JS dev who gets paid good money to develop software, who thought the reason you shouldn't use floating-point to deal with currency was because "javascript is bugged".

Uh what? How is this even feasible when you get to 1000s of clients?

>Nobody likes to be told that they're wasting their free time,

Wasting free time, a.k.a living? Capitalist propaganda is so godamn effective. People now believe that every minute you spend not working is wasted time.

Dear lord.

Anyone who has such depth either:

1-Is a genius and has no problem getting a job, therefore doesn't have to jump through these hoops

2- Or is probably on the autism spectrum and might be hard to work with

It's not a choice. It's a disease. No one chooses to be miserable.
Re:Universal Basic Income is Capitalism 2.0 on Wednesday July 29, 2020 @10:42PM (#23993928)
UBI is not about "not working". It's about "here's some basic money so you don't have to worry every day about starving to death". Want to wear clean clothes everyday and drive a car? You're gonna have to work.
Re:Universal Basic Income is Capitalism 2.0 on Wednesday July 29, 2020 @10:38PM (#23993890)
Yeah like, wtf is the point of technological innovation if we're still working like crazy?
Re:Why Do People Stay Poor? [pdf] on Wednesday July 29, 2020 @05:14PM (#23991676)
Yeah same here. Just got a close to dream job, and if I had waited maybe another week to contact them maybe it wouldn't be available anymore.

>which will generally require a certain level of communication skills and presentation ability, is the right place for you.

It's really not about presentation ability. It's "oh shit I have x minutes to do this and I have to get it right or I won't get the job, oh shit 5 minutes passed already and I haven't done anything" type of anxiety.

Re:We Don’t Need to Work So Much (2015) on Tuesday July 28, 2020 @04:32PM (#23980372)
Lmfao. How naive can people be?

Do you honestly think capitalists don't know that when people have free time they start thinking about life, and when people start thinking about life, bad shit happens to capitalists?

Being a better illustrator than most is not really an easy task. And the guy from Dilbert is not really a better illustrator than most. I mean, he draws some very basic shit.
Is there really a point to rampant, non-stop technological advancements if the common people never really get to see the benefits of it? It seems like life just keeps getting harder and harder for the lower classes.
Re:Healthy Self-Doubt on Saturday July 11, 2020 @11:38AM (#23802957)
lol sure thing bud

you are the one who has shit figured out

how arrogant to think you know anything in this vastly complex world. you don't have anything figured out. you're just arrogant and have a narrow view of the world.

Re:The myth of “joins don't scale” on Wednesday July 08, 2020 @08:15PM (#23775711)
I don't mean to say some companies like Google don't need NoSQL. Obviously they do.

Also, no you don't. It's possible to have distributed RDBMS.

Re:The myth of “joins don't scale” on Wednesday July 08, 2020 @07:09PM (#23775248)
you either need a relational model or you don't. if you try to build a complex enterprise application with nosql all that's gonna happen is you end up reinventing an RDBMS

there are not many companies in the world that can afford to reinvent shit

Re:The myth of “joins don't scale” on Wednesday July 08, 2020 @06:55PM (#23775145)
reality is 99% of companies out there will be just fine with a single db server

all this nosql fad is simply because SQL is hard and newbies would just rather call it old and slow because they can't be bothered to learn it

Re:Linus Torvalds: 'I Do No Coding Any More' on Sunday July 05, 2020 @04:46PM (#23741806)
definitely valuable for the linux kernel

for bob's old ERP software company, really won't make a difference

anything that's even remotely profitable is already taken
Who cares. The point is to get people out of their comfortable complacency.

Read this one: "We are now in the tragic situation that the most efficient health system of the richest area of the country (Lombardy) is almost at its full capacity and will soon be difficult to assist more people with Covid-19."

yeah no shit. multilingual people usually have more money.

What causes low IQ though? Just going to take a guess here and say that < 5% of people actually have "genetic stupidity". Most "low IQ" people are low IQ because they went through traumatizing hardships early in life.

>People don't want to face cold hard truths.

Yeah, no shit. People are too busy trying to survive instead of trying to figure out life's "truths".

boggles my mind that people who know the first thing about software can actually think that self driving cars are viable technology
Re:Young People Are Going to Save Us All from Office Life on Wednesday September 18, 2019 @04:55PM (#21010081)
I'm 27, never had a "proper" 9-5 type of job, and I've always wondered how do people with these types of jobs do things like taking their dog to the vet. In my country if you ask for time off to take your dog to the vet you'll definitely get weird looks. So how do they do it? Just lie and say you need to go to the bank? Just let their dog in pain?
