But how do we choose between CouchBase and CouchDB sync?
A 2TB portable USB drive costs $100.
But no, let's just upload everything to Google Drive.
Saying "I didn't know" is no excuse as this is not the first time PA Consulting have lost data!
"The Home Secretary announced on 10 September that the government has terminated its contract with PA Consulting, following the recent high profile data loss
On 19 August PA Consulting formally notified the Home Office of the loss of a data stick containing sensitive information relating to the JTrack system which PA manage under contract to the Home Office
The data on JTrack relates to prisoners and other offenders in England and Wales."

But wait, there's even more from CNN, like the photo of a 4 year old walking alone across the desert to escape the civil war, which wasn't.

Can we use the word "propaganda" yet?
Acquired company says it's business as usual, nothing will change, and then 6 months later things slowly begin to change and then after the vesting period of the acquisition finishes, and the newly minted sail off into the sunset, it all goes to hell.
To get $16bn cash from Facebook is hilarious.
Next time a start-up says they won't pay you market rate because of x, y, and z just walk away and laugh. For the sake of a few thousand dollars in wages, you could make them billions.
Don't work for cheap bastards. Funny how engineers are supposed to sacrifice yet we never see a lawyer or accountant charge below market rates, and their work can save businesses millions as well as jail-time.
"Diagnosing Sochi Media Coverage: Virulent Russophobia...
The water, the toilets, the hotels – nothing pleases our pampered media divas, whose hatred of all things Russian oozes from between the lines of their "reporting" like pus from an old wound."
All the antipathy we saw aimed at Russia during the cold war years is now being revomited up by the political class, albeit in a new flavor: instead of genuine martyrs like Andrei Sakharov and Alexandr Solzhenitsyn being lionized, we see the professional provocateurs of "Pussy Riot" elevated by Western media to the status of "dissident" stars.

How do I decide between CouchDB and CouchBase?
What are the major technical differences?
Is there a philosophical difference?
How is anyone supposed to figure out who/what to use for the long-term? CouchDB? CouchBase?
"CDTDatastore is available through CocoaPods, to install it add the following line to your Podfile:
Why CocoaPods? What is wrong with a static library? Or simply adding the relevant class files to a project?
I don't want to have Ruby infrastructure just to add a bunch of files to a project! Why are Ruby folk obsessed with doing things their 'Gems' way? They bring the same mentality to Go(lang). I always hear (ex)-Ruby folk asking questions at meetups about packaging and versioning...
His nickname in Hong Kong is "Superman" so everybody trusted him. During the first dot.com he jumped on board the IPO wagon resulting in mom and pop investors getting absolutely fleeced. I think after that episode people began to see him truly for what he is: just another rich guy playing the politicians to extend his empire, built mostly on property.
Another tidbit. His younger son, Richard Lee, promoted himself as a tech guru having graduated from Stanford studying computer science (it said so on the IPO prospectus). Journalists later discover that in fact he had attended but dropped out of Stanford, and instead went to Canada to work at his dad's financial firm, before returning to Hong Kong to help run the family business.
There are many fields and industries where women outnumber men, yet not a peep from the usual suspects.
Otherwise they're just reselling servers, which makes their claim to "open a new datacenter" even more of a farce!
I guess hustling and bending the truth is rule 101 in marketing for start-ups these days, but it doesn't have to be like that.
When Blue Bottle open a new coffee shop, that's what they call it, an opening. If other coffee shops stock their coffee, Blue Bottle don't claim to have opened a new location, they simply say their coffee is available or served there.
If not, and you're not in financial hardship, start doing those things you love now.
Enjoy your life before responsibilities and old age catch upto you.
It's amazing how things have changed in 10 years.
CPAN.

A real community of programmers, system admins, enthusiasts.
DigitalOcean did not "open" a data center in Singapore. All they have done is rented some racks / colo space from Equinix in an existing facility.

They're just another customer - to spin and imply they have built or opened a brand new data center is ridiculous.
"Our decision to open a new datacenter" is really "We've located servers in Singapore". What's wrong with telling the truth?
Just more evidence that DigitalOcean is all PR and hot air after their pot-shots at Linode and brushing off security issues as "features".

Hi, could you expand upon this, perhaps with an example? Thanks.
We'll never know if somebody else could have been as successful or not at selling ads at Google, but guess what, given that Google has been the #1 search engine for so many years, it's kind of hard to screw up, right?
At the end of the day, I don't even know why I'm commenting on this thread, because I don't actually give a damn who's running YouTube. All I care about is that the site is literally going down the tubes because of a poor user experience, and in an attempt to monetize, it's only going to get worse.
Thank god for people like John Carmack and Linus Torvalds, great programmers who are recognised as leaders and given the respect that this profession so badly needs.
At some point there will a rather innocuous post which will be blocked, and it will be the straw that breaks the camel's back.
I think it's coming. I think people are sick of the nannying and censorship and ready to move on from HN.
It's obvious that HN is not a news site, but a discussion forum based upon censored news. If this complaint had been about a non-YC funded company, the moderators would have left the story up. Heck, every other story on HN is usually about somebody complaining about a company's product or conduct.
Why is YC afraid of open discussion? So what if one company out of the portfolio is having problems? Nobody expects the investments to be perfect, yet killing the conversation makes it look far worse, as though there is something to hide.
End of the day, profit trumps transparency. Remember that the next time people get on the soap box and talk about internet freedom blah blah blah.
