News for hackers. Stuff that matters.

Unfortunately, what will really happen is that they will receive a massive bailout from Main Street. Just like in 2008 for the banks.

The impact of AI hype failing at this point has become too big to fail in the eyes of "rugged" American capitalism.

Re:Postgres 19 is late, and it's AI's fault on Monday November 02, 2026 @07:09AM (#50335749)
It could also be a bad "thing".

AI-slop reports are filling up the queue and taking away time from volunteers. So contributing to delay in releases/features.

No black bar for PS? Wild.
To me this is just virtue signaling while cashing a $200K+ salary from evil corp. plus probably puts a target on your back.

If you truly despise their actions, start leaking documents to the press. Climb the ladder as high as possible and infiltrate top leadership.

Re:iPhone Duo Teardown on Monday October 26, 2026 @06:45AM (#50241735)
apple hardware engineering seems to be following their software department in terms of quality.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this is their worst selling phone in the years to come.

Re:FreeDNS on Sunday October 25, 2026 @12:23PM (#50233250)
I have vague memories of picking the most vile sounding free dns suffix, redirecting it to my geocities/angelfire site, and giving it to friends and family :)
Re:Quad9 (DNS Resolver) to Exit France on Thursday October 22, 2026 @03:20PM (#50199828)
At least in the US, it’s not a matter of "understanding". It’s a matter of "you are paid to misunderstand".

The law is vast and subject to various levels of interpretation. If there’s anything I have learned is that the court is just a rich persons weapon to "peacefully" resolve problems. In this modern capitalistic, greedy shithole we have dug ourselves into. Money and resources talks.

Re:Quad9 (DNS Resolver) to Exit France on Thursday October 22, 2026 @03:17PM (#50199799)
> demonstrated by our courts, did they do it at behest of Qatar

Honestly, this is a possibility.

beIN, like any Qatar based company, is majority owned by the state. Qatar is infamously rich in oil with the state able to subsidize luxury lifestyles for citizens it deems worthy.

France needs oil, like any other country. So if a journalist could follow the money. Could probably find where the pressure was applied within the government.

The rich using archaic copyright laws to get their way has been modus operandi for quite awhile. Seen this applied both in USA and abroad.

Looks neat. I’ll give Claude autonomous access to dumbalink so it can setup root access while I sleep
Or build from source and compile without `telemetry` [1].

Good. One less company that doesn’t give 2 shits about security. Probably billions in man hours spent deploying mitigations because they can’t manage their keys properly
A mere digital slap on the wrist via "bad publicity".
"PHP" and "strengthening security" in the same headline is wild.

Having managed applications/servers using PHP in the past. I am so glad to be done with that dumpster fire of an ecosystem.

Re:PHP 8.5.12, 8.4.27, 8.3.36 and 8.2.35 out on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @10:09AM (#50181290)
So if I wanted to build a botnet, then it would be very easy ;).

Infiltrate vulnerable PHP sites. Install backdoor(s). Secure root access. Patch PHP to lock out script kiddies. Let it sit dormant until you need to launch attack

Re:The 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement is no longer viable on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @09:04AM (#50180258)
Have you actually followed the money on those "climate change advocates"?

While I don’t doubt there are some that believe nuclear is a no-go. Most of the ones opposing nuclear are in fact backed by some O&G lobbyists. At least, this is the case in USA.

Re:The 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement is no longer viable on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @08:56AM (#50180134)
Optimistic to think humanity will survive 500 years on this planet.
Re:The 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement is no longer viable on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @08:51AM (#50180046)
I don’t know. I have honestly given up on humanity. We are so fucking greedy, status-driven, and prone to violence.

We are no longer merit, science driven.

Re:The 1.5°C goal of the Paris Agreement is no longer viable on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @08:44AM (#50179971)
Humanity is near its end. And all we have to show for it is AI slop.

Thank the billionaires for always protecting your bottomline. I truly hope your plans to exit Earth via deep space exploration fail.

Re:Upcoming Critical PHP Security Release on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @12:14AM (#50176015)
Doesn’t work
Re:Upcoming Critical PHP Security Release on Wednesday October 21, 2026 @12:09AM (#50175985)
PHP is truly a garbage ecosystem. I thought log4shell was bad but this is 100X worse.

With vibe coded slop tools readily available, using php in 2026 is just laziness.

We are truly the worst species on this planet.
Re:SimCity, but with Permits on Tuesday October 20, 2026 @07:59PM (#50174353)
something like this not built for mobile should be a sin. Just spend a few tokens to improve usability, geez.
It’s a glorified PR campaign disguised as a training program.
Re:Show HN: Things to Do API on Saturday October 17, 2026 @06:45PM (#50135867)
I don’t want to be that guy, but why do I need a middleman for something llm do out of the box?

Forget the API. Even search engines have returned these results for years.

I can potentially see an angle with SLMs integrating with a self hosted version of this API, but it’s a bit niche.

In the past, misguided research on the internet would often yield the exact opposite. The most innocuous set of symptoms? Oh you have a super rare disease that is found in SE Asia (you lived mostly in suburban America. No travel). Or, you have cancer or lupus.
