At least there is much missing data for human like intelligence. If human would be trained with same input data, I think he/she would not understand relationships.
Re:Consciousness is not computation on Monday June 20, 2022 @12:28AM (#31806285)
Because we do not know what consciousness is, it is impossible to say if consciousness is computation or not.

we must not resist any idea about consciousness because it is very poorly known phenomenon. Anyone who argues that it is known if consciousness is computation or not, is just completely wrong.

Re:IQ scores are falling and have been for decades (2018) on Saturday May 14, 2022 @12:56PM (#31379879)
In Finland, everybody and your mum has ”higher education”. Requirements are surely decreasing. Old academic universities are now vocational schools.
Whiteboards can be replaced by digital tools, but as far as I know, companies do not invest to remote work tools enough currently.

There are great tools, which should be available for every worker in home, but that does not happen for some reason?

Re:Tell HN: If You Are in Russia on Tuesday March 01, 2022 @04:12AM (#30511604)
The response is fast because Putin directly said that he is planning to conquer half of free nations in Europe.

All people in eastern Europe fear him and russians. We will do anything to stop the grazy wannabe-Hitler and russians.

True. My modest proposal is that we increase population at least to 100 billion (= 100 000 000 000) - or even more!

Number of people does not matter.

Re:The metaverse is bullshit on Saturday October 30, 2021 @02:27AM (#29046503)
Exactly. Things are changing and it is not a bad thing if corporates try to be a change. Probably they fail, but even trying is better than doing nothing.
After many decades we still discuss and wonder how work amount estimates should be done and why they are always wrong. The most brilliant software engineers and project managers have developed countless different methods and nothing works.

For me it tells that nature of work is such that we just can not estimate work amounts. We are just pretending that it can be done.

Re:Too much free time may be almost as bad as too little on Friday September 10, 2021 @04:13AM (#28478953)
Just 10000 years ago there was not ”work”. Before that people lived millions years with 100% free time.

We are still able to be free and decide by ourselves what to do during the day.

Re:Apple chief executive Tim Cook gets $750m payout on Friday August 27, 2021 @07:51AM (#28326629)
For some reason owners of Apple value Tim Cook worth of billions.

I am sure that if you can replace Tim Cook and work for 390$ per month, owners will happily fire Tim Cook.

Re:Atlas robot does parkour on Tuesday August 17, 2021 @01:18PM (#28212347)
Dystopia started when we invented farming 10 000 years ago.
How tens of millions people can escape underground or rivers? I think that there will not be space available for most of them.
Let’s say that we have an error in the requirement definitions. The error may make whole product almost useless.

Is it cheap to detect error from initial requirement specifications or when the product is in sales and nobody buys it because of the requirement flaw?

If we make wrong kind of products in a way or another, it is always very expensive.

Re:America’s government comes clean on UFOs on Saturday July 03, 2021 @12:20PM (#27722687)
How you explain events which are seen in multiple sensors same time?
I have colleagues who have done WFH always - at least 5 years. I do not see any mental issues in them.
Re:A recent poll of employees who are working remotely on Thursday January 28, 2021 @02:59PM (#25948139)
High enough human population leads to continuous pandemics. It is law of nature and can not be changed.
Re:A recent poll of employees who are working remotely on Thursday January 28, 2021 @02:51PM (#25947999)
I do not need an expensive car anymore when I am working from home. That alone is huge benefit.
Re:Parler drops offline after Amazon pulls support on Monday January 11, 2021 @01:25PM (#25733372)
Two party system the closest thing to a democracy... Perhaps you should re-evaluate and study other democracies.
Re:Can developer productivity be measured? on Friday December 11, 2020 @03:09PM (#25390304)
What is productivity of managers? How it is measured?

Why productivity of developers must be measured, but productivity of managers not?

Re:Your brain runs your body using something like a budget on Thursday November 26, 2020 @02:52AM (#25217871)
The truth can not be defined based on how pleasant the theory is.
Instead of you, perhaps someone from lower caste would be better to evaluate if there is discrimination or not.
But nordic countries defend each other. You should check combined force.

How strong is army of Alabama? Comparison between Sweden and USA is not very fair.

Finland has quite good artillery force and they will receive the first hit.

Re:Why companies lose their best innovators (2019) on Sunday July 19, 2020 @01:10PM (#23890732)
I have not ever been working in a company, which would reward innovation meaningful way. Why I would give any ideas free for anyone?

If I have a good idea, I will benefit for it or nobody.

Re:The global fertility rate is falling on Wednesday July 15, 2020 @01:26PM (#23848448)

Re:Electrons May Well Be Conscious on Monday May 18, 2020 @12:31AM (#23218371)

Re:Wildlife is reclaiming Yosemite National Park on Monday April 13, 2020 @01:58PM (#22858183)
It does not matter in any case. The earth is just completely insignificant, extremely small grain of matter.
