Biden was in power for the survey in 2024.
Re:The Post-AI Internet Doesn't Look Great on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @04:10PM (#49541782)
That is probably the more likely scenario.
Re:The Post-AI Internet Doesn't Look Great on Wednesday September 02, 2026 @04:05PM (#49541712)
There are two conflicting messages here: AI is ruining the Internet, but also now the relationship with the Internet is more "peaceful".

A more peaceful relationship with the internet does sound good, and most of us probably waste too much time with social media in some form (including here).

My "optimistic" take on this is that AI will ruin the Internet and cause us all to spend more time with people in real life. And maybe that's a good thing.

That's assuming that AI Internet slop is such a turn-off that most of us will decide to disengage from it, which is a big assumption. But I did say it was optimistic.

They don't claim that's 2.5M cancellations of paid subscriptions. It's "taken action". It's vague for a reason
Re:Merlin Bird ID on Wednesday June 04, 2025 @09:48AM (#44180725)
It is amazing, but it does often give false positives. That probably can't be avoided, though
Re:Making Beautiful API Keys on Friday January 10, 2025 @09:53AM (#42656070)
They realized that and were pleased with themselves.

> The dashes do remove easy double-click copying, but we think this a fine trade off for readability. We don't want users copying and pasting them everywhere, in fact we want them to be handled with care. Ideally, users copy each key exactly once - when they generate the key from our dashboard - so we added a copy button to our UI to solve that case

Don't even think about copying/pasting that key, you rube!

Could almost call it a staple of Sierra games.

I look forward to the next couple posts in this series: The Leaky Faucet Test and The Clogged Toilet Test.
Re:Doctor Replied to Your Email. That'll Cost $25 on Friday March 08, 2024 @04:26PM (#39646689)
If you're in the US, and can afford it, I think direct primary care is the way to go.
Re:Show HN: Qwertle, yet another daily word game on Thursday February 01, 2024 @05:56AM (#39214658)
It doesn’t track streaks correctly. I have solved for the last 8 days. It shows 100% correct, but my current streak is 1 and longest streak 3
Re:Dating apps lose their luster with college students on Monday November 06, 2023 @10:34AM (#38163937)
Great question. Something like you suggest could help. I definitely think it's possible to do better, because some of the apps have a lot fewer fake profiles/scammers compared to say, Tinder.

I think there isn't enough incentive for some of them (again, Tinder) to bother. If enough people stop using them, maybe they will incentivized to do better.

Re:Dating apps lose their luster with college students on Monday November 06, 2023 @09:07AM (#38162739)
If you pay to subscribe, that does nothing to help with scammers, I promise you.

With, of course, the minters of that coin taking the majority of the claims /s
Have you looked at the RAZ Memory Cell Phone? I've been considering that for my mom, who also has early stage dementia.
This is the kind of thing that will be pointed to as a reason to bring employees back into the office. So much so, that it's hard to believe it's real.

If you are applauding these guys while maintaining that being forced into the office is a crime against humanity, you may want to do some introspection.

Re:Substack Notes Launched on Tuesday April 11, 2023 @01:13PM (#35528086)
On the other hand, I have a quite positive opinion of Substack given the articles I read there, and I know I'm not alone.

I don't like Twitter though, so I don't really care about Notes

That only difference is an extremely important difference
Re:Home Prices Fell in February for First Time in 11 Years on Wednesday March 22, 2023 @12:20PM (#35263405)
That's good to know. I'm hoping those conditions don't come back here for awhile.

Getting into spring, I could see more people start looking again, with some pent-up demand not met from last year.

Re:Home Prices Fell in February for First Time in 11 Years on Wednesday March 22, 2023 @12:13PM (#35263310)
That must be specific to your market. That's not what I'm seeing in the Denver area, speaking as someone who has been casually looking for a house for over a year.

As soon as interest rates started rising, conditions went from what you describe, to, in a lot of cases, houses sitting weeks or months on the market. They go through, sometimes, multiple prices drops before going under contract.

I'm speaking specifically of homes that are in the range of those I'm considering purchasing, so maybe it doesn't apply to the overall market. For me, though, it is now much more of a buyer's market than it was a year ago.

Re:Emulating Pokemon Emerald on GPT-4 on Thursday March 16, 2023 @12:27AM (#35178139)
I was imagining similar things. Dating apps, in general, are already pretty poor experiences for a lot of people. This won't help.

Will scammers use it to create more believable bot matches?

Maybe we'll have to go back to meeting at bars.

Freshly did full meals, ready to microwave. That said, they shut down this year.
I agree that the attitude that doing real work is "low class" is disgusting.

I also think the attitude that paying someone to fix your car "is disgraceful" is disgusting.

This is also offtopic, but I cringe when software companies use the word "delight" when describing their software.

I loved Grimrock. Have there been any similar games of comparable quality released since Legend of Grimrock 2 in 2014? I haven't found any that I could get into.
Agreed, though fortunately it silences quickly upon “Alexa, shut up”
The video description also references IKEA:

"Check out the official reveal of the new Open-World Action Horror game that has you explore an infinite IKEA store and survive it's many different entities and discover it's secrets"

Re:AirPods Pro (2nd Generation) on Wednesday September 07, 2022 @06:23PM (#32757891)
This is my complaint as well. On multiple pairs, the microphone becomes unreliable after some number of months. If I'm lucky, it's within the warranty period.
Re:How elites misread public opinion on Saturday June 18, 2022 @02:45PM (#31792611)
You're right, I misinterpreted what you were saying, and the explanation I described does not address that.
